Handmade copper buttons

After seeing various handmade metallic buttons, I wanted to create some for No I. This idea led me on a quest to find a creative who could produce a small batch without breaking the bank. The search ended when I found Aura, a very talented jewellery maker, who was enthusiastic about the project. We quickly sourced a copper sheet to give it a try.

Once we finalised the samples, we decided to produce two types of buttons. The first type was made from 2mm copper, which, although pricey, resulted in a very solid and substantial button. Aura gave these buttons irregular sides, with rounded edges and added a few scratches to create a patina finish.

The second type was made from a 1mm copper sheet and was hammered. These buttons were designed for medium to light fabrics, for shirts or jackets, while the thicker ones were done exclusively for heavier coats. It would be great to explore on different metals and finishes in the future to create even more unique effects.
